Assistant to the Bishop for Operations
"The primary focus areas of the Assistant to the Bishop for Operations are around policy and administration. This work is done in collaboration and communication with office staff, the Finance, Investment, Audit, and the Constitution committees. This half-time time assistant regularly interacts with all the office staff around day to day operations, personnel policies, communications and finances. She also serves as the liaison to the Lutheran Disaster Response Leadership Team for Upstate New York.
Linking the financial and administrative resources with our synod’s mission and vision for ministry is the key component of this position. The position is one in which the gifts of organization, flexibility, and strong communication skills are coupled with the trust that God indeed provides all that we need for what He calls us to do as Resurrection People.
Working in the Finance area with the Synod Bookkeeper and Synod Treasurer, this assistant provides regular review of synod finances and annual development of the synod budget and our Mission Proposal. Working with Deans and other Assistants we annually update the synod’s minimum compensation requirements for rostered leaders. The position also works with the Director of Evangelical Mission to encourage stewardship and mission support. This assistant walks with congregations as they develop, revise and update their congregational constitutions in accordance with the ELCA Model Constitution guidelines and drafts compensation packages for clergy called to congregations.
Walking together with both lay and rostered leaders from across the synod in a variety of tasks provides for an exciting journey that involves much prayer as together we seek to grow in faith and share the gospel.
