More than a year has passed since many across our synod responded to the immediate need for help after Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee stormed through upstate New York. Generous donations of time and money have helped significantly with the clean-up and rebuilding but much work still remains to be done - many are still not in their homes, houses still need repairs and volunteer help is still needed. Coupled with donations from many across our synod, Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR) has provided more than $80,000 in financial support. LDR continues to support long term recovery work.  

 

Our primary focus is in the Schoharie area where the biggest need is for volunteer skilled workers of any kind...skilled with a hammer, carpentry in general, electricians, plumbers, masons...or skilled at leading a group with some unskilled members. Come as an individual, come as a group. Come for a day, several days or even a week. Learn how to prepare for long term recovery work.

Visits need to be scheduled at least two or more weeks prior to your arrival. SALT will then send information about the volunteer effort, skill assessment sheets, liability release forms, etc. Visit the SALT website for more information on volunteering.
