This is the second in a series of articles featuring synod committees, teams, task forces, and networks as outlined in Bishop Jerge's October 3rd article
Synod Assembly Planning Team - "The Annual Synod Assembly is one way that Resurrection people from across the Upstate New York Synod walk together. In 2013 we will gather June 7 - 8 in Rochester for worship and Bible study, for fellowship and mission work, and to do the business of our synod. The Synod Assembly Planning Team is responsible for the overall planning of each year's assembly. Working in collaboration with synod staff this group of lay and rostered volunteers develops a theme around one of five rotating focus areas set by the Synod Council. Our 2013 focus is on Vocation and Education. Ideally, the Assembly Planning Team includes geographic representation from across the synod and includes CONVO and Y'ALL as well.
We gather 6 - 7 times throughout the year to establish a schedule for the overall assembly which includes choosing a keynote speaker, planning workshops, Mission faire, fellowship events, and worship opportunities. Working with Bishop Jerge and the Synod Council Vice President an agenda for plenary sessions and the business of the synod is created. The planning process begins as soon as the previous year's assembly is over.
