Sampson-Bouchard elected synod secretary PDF Print E-mail

In a first ballot that was nearly declared invalid, Patrice Sampson-Bouchard was elected the new secretary of the synod.  The incumbent Sandy Moncrief has served as secretary for the last twelve years.

At first, counts showed that only 332 voting members had checked into the assembly, but 341 votes had been cast.  Last-minute record checks revealed that some people had not been recorded as checked in.  When they were added, the final total was 342 voting members.  Therefore, the first ballot was declared valid.

The assembly also elected people to serve on the synod's Consultation Committee and Discipline Committee and elected Christopher George and Bruni Guzman to be at-large voting members to the 2013 Churchwide Assembly.  The synod constitution directs that two at-large voting members, one male and one female, who are persons of color or who speak a primary language other than English, shall be chosen by the assembly.

The assembly also elected Fred Risser to serve on the board of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia and officially elected synod council members and Churchwide Assembly voting members previously chosen by conferences.
